My love of art and learning have led me towards working with a variety of mediums including photography, watercolor and mixed media, and printmaking. Working with the Wintergreen Oil transfers has bridged my love of printmaking and photography.
The wintergreen oil printmaking process is very satisfying to me…from the time that I shoot the images to the time that I can see the image being transferred. It is almost as if I am capturing moments and emotions in time. I am deeply moved by change that takes place when the photograph is transferred into the print.
Wintergreen Oil Transfers can be thought of as both an Alternative Photographic Process and a Printmaking Technique. The process starts with an original photograph, which is taken by myself, (35mm, Polaroid, or digital image). A color copy is made from the original photograph, and Wintergreen Oil is applied to the back of the color copy. The color copy toner is then transferred onto acid-free printmaking paper by rubbing it with a wooden spoon. The toners in color copiers will have a life as long as other oil based printmaking inks.
